Electrochemical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes confined to tin disulfide as the negative electrodes of lithium ion battery
The direct current arc-plasma method was used to prepare multi-walled carbon nitrotube-confined metallic tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as a precursor in a methane environment, and later SnS_2@MWCNT was obtained by an sulfurization process. The results from the physical characterization of the material such as Raman, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and the transmission electron microscope (TEM) proved that the size of multi-walled carbon Nanotubes were about 400nm. Additionally, the Carbon layer on the surface had been crystallized, it was thicker than the surrounding carbon, about 10 nm. Lithium-ion cells using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures for anodes material have shown relatively good electrochemical performance. Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery
A novel composite material comprising SnS2 and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was developed using the simple solvothermal method. It was found to have an excellent electrochemical performance when added to the negatively electrode material of lithium Ion batteries. At a current density of 1 A/g, after one hundred times it still maintains a variable specific capacity of the 510 mAh/g. As a comparison, we used the same process to synthesize one SnS2 material and conduct studies on electrochemistry on the material. The results show that although the initial specific capabilities of SnS2 material is large, the performance of its cycles is low and decreases rapidly after less than 20 cycles. The superior efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is believed to be the result of the synergy between two parts which are SnS2 and SWCNTs.
